New Mountain Bike Trail Opened in Galway

One of the first mountain bike trail networks in the country has been opened at Derroura Mountain in Connemara, along with the Lackavrea Boardwalk and the New Village Loop Walks.

The 14-kilometre long track, which is expected to attract over 10,000 visitors during the first year, was officially opened last week by Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, éamon ó Cuív TD.

Speaking at the launch, Minister ó Cuív said the trail was a great boost for rural tourism in Galway.

The three projects are part of the larger development of recreational trails and infrastructure in Galway and Mayo funded, at over €800,000 under the last National Development Plan.

The facilities are free and open to the public and will increase the attractiveness of the west of Ireland as a tourist destination.
